BIDIM BLO! is the first institutional solo exhibition by Kenny Dunkan in Germany. Through sculpture, photography, video, and entire spatial installations, the artist creates a diverse and visually striking world. Dunkan’s works are characterised by dichotomies: between craft and design, pop and high culture, fetish and playfulness, detail and totality, minimalism and overloaded execution. It is through the interplay of these different elements that Kenny Dunkan develops an emancipatory formal language and succeeds in conveying critical themes with ease and sensitivity. By combining site-specific conditions with the visual culture of the Caribbean and the aesthetics of the carnival in particular, he addresses the French colonial heritage and its lasting influence on perceptions and forms of representation.
