Intro Text

The first extensive solo exhibition by Kaya & Blank focuses on the often invisible infrastructures of sleepless, capitalist production and lifestyles.

Whether container ports, radio towers, motorway junctions or oil pumps, the masterfully crafted photographs and videos by Işık Kaya and Thomas Georg Blank show critical architectures of neoliberal industry. Using a visual language that allows for narrative distance from these systems. In an intensive examination of the resources whose exploitation their works reveal, Kaya & Blank develop their own photographic processes and expose their motifs partly on bitumen, sea salts or living algae cultures. In this way, the historical role of photography as an instrument of human domination over nature is renegotiated.
